When the sun is shining, it’s hard for kids to stay indoors. Change up the routine and take the kids to one of these community parks around Cumming, Georgia, to enjoy some fresh air and physical activity. Learn all about five area parks that kids love, so you can plan for a fun day outdoors.
- Fowler Park
Bring the sports equipment and a picnic lunch to Fowler Park, because with so much to do, you’ll want to stay all day. The park has several baseball fields, lighted tennis courts, full and half outdoor basketball courts, and additional rectangular fields. You can explore the 1.5-mile walking trail, eat lunch at one of the pavilions, and have a blast with your kids at the two playgrounds. Bring along your furry friends and play at the dog park, too. You won’t find much shade at Fowler Park, so be sure to bring a good sun hat and sunscreen to stay safe.
- Haw Creek Park
If you want to spend some time in the woods, check out Haw Creek Park. This 85-acre park has more than 3 miles of walking and biking trails, so be sure to bring along your hiking shoes and backpack. You can also enjoy lunch at the picnic pavilion and the kids can play on the unique woodland-theme playground. If you want to be outside on a hot day, Haw Creek Park is the perfect place to go since it’s naturally shaded by the surrounding trees. However, take note that the bathrooms are located far away from the trails and playground.
- Caney Creek Preserve Park
Another park you should check out is Caney Creek Preserve Park. This park is home to walking trails, a natural amphitheater, and a fun playground. The playground includes an archeological dig site and a water area. Caney Creek Preserve Park has two entrances, so if you’re interested in the playground, use the second entrance.
- Ducktown Park
For a more traditional park experience, stop by Ducktown Park. You’ll find a fitness playground, grass fields, and horseshoe pits. Don’t forget to bring your volleyball, so you can play on the sand volleyball court. The park also has a rubberized walking and running path, which is softer on your joints. While there is a covered pavilion near the playground, you won’t find shade elsewhere at Ducktown Park.
- Coal Mountain Park
For a shaded outdoor play experience, check out Coal Mountain Park. Don’t forget to bring the sports equipment since this park includes several youth baseball and softball fields, a soccer field, and two tennis courts. You can also explore the walking trail, enjoy a picnic lunch at the pavilion, use the community building, and stay all day at the two playgrounds. The bathrooms and covered pavilion are conveniently located next to the playground.
These five parks have something for everyone, so make the most of the nice weather by packing sunscreen and snacks for a day at the park.
