Visiting a park on a warm summer day is a great way to spend time in nature while still being close to home. Luckily for those living in and around Cumming, Georgia, there are plenty of great parks in the area that are worth visiting along with friends and family.
Little Ridge Park
This wonderful park is located only a short 15-minute drive from downtown Cumming, right on the edge of Lake Lanier. The main attraction is the Little Ridge Trail, a mile-long path that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the natural surroundings and forget about the noisy and crowded urban areas that are just a few miles away. There are also plenty of picnic spots by the lake, so you and your hiking companions can stop and grab a bite to eat after your tour of the park.
It’s also a local hot spot for fishing enthusiasts, with plenty of large striped bass swimming around Lake Lanier. A boat ramp with a floating dock makes it easier to get in and out, making it an ideal spot even for those who don’t enjoy fishing but would like to spend time on the lake along with friends and family.
Fowler Park
This 85-acre park is ideal for those who enjoy playing sports in natural surroundings. Visitors can choose from a wide variety of physical activities, such as playing baseball, softball, football, soccer, tennis, basketball, skating in the local skate park, and hiking or jogging along the 6.8-mile path. There’s also a large dog park for dog owners who want to take their best friend with them, as well as a playground that the kids will surely enjoy.
Just because this park has many amenities for active people doesn’t mean it’s not a great place to relax and unwind, with a large five-acre passive area available for those who just want to chill and recharge their batteries in gorgeous natural surroundings.
Cumming City Park
This park is significantly smaller than the other two, but its proximity to all of Cumming’s hot spots makes it very convenient for those who want to relax or take their kids to an outdoor playground but don’t have too much spare time. It was fully renovated in 2016 and features lots of green turf space where kids can run around freely and safely. They also have playsets for children of all ages and plenty of swings.
The adults can have a bite to eat while their children play with 20 picnic tables available for them complete with bathroom facilities. Overall, it’s a great place to visit if you’re in a hurry and your kids will definitely want to return.
People visit parks for different reasons. Some just want to lay on the grass and read a book, while others want to engage in physical activities like hiking, running, or playing sports. No matter what you and your family enjoy doing in an outdoor setting, you can be sure that there’s a park in or near Cumming where you can perform your favorite activities.
